Top 10 highlights from 2023

Goodbye 2023, hello 2024. I can't wait to get all buddy buddy with you. But first, let's roam through 2023 a bit one last time and see what my top 10 moments were. Here is what really stood out to me. 

In somewhat of a monthly order,

1. Hand-building work shop

The first highlight was in January, when I held my first hand-building workshop. 16 ladies learned how to get started with making cups and bowls using the pinch pot technique and my friend Line served the most amazing brunch during our workshop. If you missed it the first time, do go back and re-visit my handbuilding workshop in Denmark.

2. Donated a footed bowl to the Northern Lights Nordic Museum Auction

In the spring I donated this footed bowl for a charity auction at our local Nordic Museum in Seattle. The auction was a big success. This is an annual event, and I look forward to participating in the future.

3. Teaching wheel throwing to beginning and seasoned throwers.

I have been giving impromptu sessions to fellow students for a couple of years to great reviews. This year I formalized my efforts and began teaching students one on one where I help new and seasoned potters create great habits in throwing, teach about best practices and trouble shoot with them if there are any sticking points. 4. First summer market attended at Three Tree Point this summer

In August I had so much fun attending our local summer market in Three Tree Point. It was so great to meet both customers and fellow vendors, some of whom became great friends this year. I had fun coming up with my booth as well as creating several marketing pieces.

5. Moved to my new light filled studio space

In the fall, I out-grew my former studio and I really wanted some daylight where I throw, create, take pictures and video and so much more. We finished my new space at the end of December, so stay tuned for an upcoming blog post about how I transformed our guest room into my new studio space with a WINDOW. Here is a sneak peek:

6. Came up with a new line of fern leaf ceramics

Sometimes what you make comes out even prettier than you imagined. This is my favorite piece I pulled out of my Kiln opening no. 28 / a platter with a fern leaf pattern. I love this so much. I still need to do some R&D (research and development) before I am fully ready to roll out this new design to a glorious series, and I can. not. wait. so. excited.

7. Added to my Christmas line of ornaments with several new pieces and introduced paper kits

This is my third year making a line of Christmas ornaments and I had several that got me so very excited. My favorite from 2023 is probably the snow flake tree ornament. I mean...

2023 was also the year when I introduced paper kits and I am very excited to add to this collection for Christmas 2024.

8. Attended 3 Christmas markets in November and December

I attended not one, not two, but THREE Christmas markets in 2023. It has been such a fun and a challenging experience. I have met so many wonderful new people and learned SO much. I am very excited to see what 2024 will bring on this front. It has added a whole new dimension to my clay journey. Read about one market here. And the other two markets here.

9. 5 of my ornament designs on display at our local Paper Delights store

One of the wildest things that happened this year was when I sold some of my ornaments to the most charming store in my neighborhood. What a fun experience. Below is "my" first customer, who bought two ornaments before they even hit the shelves. Such a highlight!

10. Turned my old studio space into a finished ceramics display of finished work.

And finally, when I moved down the hall to my new studio, see bullet number 2 above, I turned my old space into a type of boutique space where I display my finished works. Oh let the decorating commence. And the re-decorating. I am having so much fun with this. The sheer visualness-ness of this is giving me life!

Currently it is pretty empty though, so give me a couple of months to fill it up again! Pedal to the metal in 2024!
