Before my most recent sale, I spent a couple of months getting ready since this was the first time I was doing a sale with a large booth under a pop-up tent. In addition to all the practical things I got ready such as getting a pop-up, figuring out my display set up and all the myriad of other things I needed, I also spent a considerable amount of time and focus on the marketing materials I wanted to bring. Here are the 11 pieces of marketing materials I brought to the market. At the end of the post is one more thing that I left at home.
First up was this flyer I made. This was to bring awareness to the sale and the week before the sale I went for a long walk in my neighborhood and put up this flyer on various phone poles and handed them out to people I met. At the sale I had a couple of people telling me that they came specifically because they had seen this flyer, so it turned out to be a good idea. The day after the sale I went around and took them all down again so I wasn't littering. #proenvironment.
I also made those oversized crepe flowers for my banner which you will see in a moment.
Since this was the first time I attended this sale, I did not know quite what to expect, so I planned on this being mostly a marketing event and I made these postcards to hand out to everybody. I made a very simple design in the hopes that it would be pretty enough that people who like to put things on their fridge would put it there. On the back I wrote a bit about myself to make the postcards more personal.
I also brought my business cards in case anyone asked for those. A few people did. I made the holder out of ceramics.
I also offered to sign people up for my email newsletter if they were interested in knowing about future sales and events. Quite a few people signed up for that which made me very happy. I made the sign-up sheet pretty, simple and made sure to let people know I would not spam them. Which I won't. If you are interested in signing up you can do so at the bottom of this post. It's worth it.
I also made a large 36x48 inch poster to put as a backdrop on my vignette table.
Next up, I made this bi-fold brochure. You can download it as a pdf on my home page if you are interested. We put one of these brochures into the bags of everyone who bought some of my ceramics. Or, we gave them out if you asked for one.
We wrapped up all purchases and put in one of these kraft colored bags with my new bag stamp stamped onto the front. The bag stamp features my logo, my hand drawn fern, my website address, my name and A Home for Ceramics.
I then made an order form in case anyone wanted to order anything. I also had these glaze samples on a ribbon so you could pick which glaze you would like. This glaze sample ribbon has glazes on white clay. I am working on making similar ones with the other clays I use in the colors sand, yellow, red and brown.
I made a large banner to go behind the display shelving. I used a painters tarp, sewed on some ties and cut out my logo and the letters with my cutter and that worked really well. Here you can see that I attached my handmade crepe oversized poppies to the canvas for a summery feel as well.

At the end of the vignette table, over the table cloth, I attached my logo tea towel. It is a pattern I made digitally and had a fabric swatch printed which I then hemmed and hung up.
I ironed on my logo and name onto a couple of t-shirts as well and wore one of them while at the sale.

Those where the 11 pieces of marketing I brought to the market and they all played nicely together to the point that I was almost overwhelmed with the positive feedback on how cohesive everything looked. That was so nice to see all that effort pay off. Oh and the one piece I left at home? It is the very thing you are reading this blog post on: My website. I spent several weeks updating my site and adding a lot more content to it so that when I passed out my marketing material which pointed you to my site, it was actually a worthwhile trip to come here. I hope.
I spent quite a while on shooting fresh photos of all my new items. And made short videos which you can see on the gallery mainly. And below you can see I had some help while taking photos from my lovely assistant who thinks he is being very stealth and unnoticeable. But I think if you look carefully, you can make out someone below that kind of sticks out and is not like the other things. I have faith in you.
