Welcome to kiln opening number 63. I number my kiln firings and host an Earthie award show about it right here.
(I want to share with you the 7 best pieces or groups of pieces the kiln gave me. I affectionately think of these picks as "Earthies" awards. (Earth=clay). At the end of the post I am going to declare the Kiln Winner. I have declared a kiln winner ever since my very first glaze firing. The Kiln Winner is the ceramic piece that makes me the most exited to pull from that kiln firing.)
To build on the excitement, here are the 7 categories:
- 1. Noted glaze
- 2. Knows its shape
- 3. Pattern pot
- 4. Flexing texture
- 5. Favorite newcomer
- 6. Stacks or groups
- 7. Honorable mention
From this group of nominees I pick my favorite: the Kiln Winner. Here we go.
I am in hot pursuit of a nice golden glaze color and this one is really good. I really like the darker line where the glaze meets the raw clay.
Knowing its shape and makes me think Va-va-va-voom. This bowl is pretty large and would look great on a kitchen island filled with fruit and veggies. Pencil for size.
This is a new pattern I am trying out. Or actually a series of patterns. White hand painting that shows up through the glaze. So pretty.
Christmas homes! So much yes and of course with velvet ribbon. The textured roof on these is what I am here for. But also the round windows to the second floor. That is right, a two story Christmas home, ready to hand on your tree.
A new kind of candle stick are these candle stick bowls. They look great on their own and in the summer time I use these outside on the patio, but in the winter time, with a wreath, they get this whole new festive personality.
More candle sticks. These were a commission and my do they look nice in such a big grouping. Loving all the different heights.
Honorable mention goes to this set of mushrooms. I am dialing in more cute details on these like the big white dots and a more subtle glaze. Very happy with how these came out. You can stick a pair of these in any vignette and instantly infuse a bit of nature. If you follow me on Instagram you can follow along as I proto-type my way through lots of other ideas.
These where the seven highlights of kiln number 63. So who won?
The gaggle of candlesticks! What a group, what a family! No table scape should be without candlesticks and a nice big grouping such as this? You almost don't need anything else, right? Almost!
Here they all are again. Finger snaps for kiln 63.
