Kiln unloading no 20 - 7 favorite pieces from my latest firing

Ever since I fired my first glaze kiln in March 2022, I have declared a "kiln winner" each time. It is the one piece in each kiln that is just dazzling me with its shininess or blowing me away with its surprising result. Below on the left you can see the very first kiln winner. The OG. The one that started it all.

I was totally smitten with how the glaze broke over the carvings on this one. It was my first time using this clay with this glaze and I was sold.

Fast forward to today and I have just fired my 20th kiln - my 13th glaze kiln. My kiln has given me good results so she deserves some awards. Think of them as "Earthies awards" ha ha. So to commemorate, I started a new series on Instagram - you should follow me on Instagram - 7 highlights from my latest glaze kiln. Screenshots below, right.

The categories are in no particular order

  • Noted glaze - for a great color or neutral
  • Flexing texture - I am a sucker for a good texture
  • Pattern pot - I don't do many patterns, but when I do, the best go here
  • Knows its shape - this is where I stick a pot with a strong form
  • Favorite newcomer - which can be a new clay, a new shape or something else new
  • Stacks - stacks well with others is given to repeated shapes that you can put in a stack
  • Kiln winner - takes the crown!

Below left - Noted glaze - is a new green glaze I am testing. I really like this one. On the right -Flexing texture - is a very subtle, almost-not-there, white on white texture. It is made with a white clay, a white slip and then glazed in white. What's not to love?

On the left - Stack - you can see my new white brunch tea cups. I can not wait to set my brunch table with these. On the right - Pattern pot - is a new stencil I am trying out. It is based off some leaves I picked on a morning walk.

On the left - Favorite newcomer - is a new clay I have been trying out. I was very pleasantly surprised with the lovely orangey color and next to the white glaze it is just *chefs kiss*. On the right - Knows its shape - is a three tiered plate situation. This one just worked out, I was very pleased. Both of these two were in the running up until the last minute for Kiln winner.

But there can only be one.

Drum rolllll. The kiln winner. This footed bowl stands at 10 inches tall. This clay and glaze combo is the same as the OG carved vase kiln winner above. I just love this combination. Toasted sandy clay color with tiny specks and a see-through white glaze. Yes please.

Let's move in for a group picture. Can you scoot over a bit?

Pattern pot, can you sit on Flexing texture's lap? Great!
