Welcome to kiln opening number 83 I number my kiln firings and host an Earthie award show about it right here.
(I want to share with you the 7 best pieces or groups of pieces the kiln gave me. I affectionately think of these picks as "Earthies" awards. (Earth=clay). At the end of the post I am going to declare the Kiln Winner. I have declared a kiln winner ever since my very first glaze firing. The Kiln Winner is the ceramic piece that makes me the most exited to pull from that kiln firing.)
To build on the excitement, here are the 7 categories:
- 1. Noted glaze
- 2. Knows its shape
- 3. Pattern pot
- 4. Flexing texture
- 5. Favorite newcomer
- 6. Stacks or groups
- 7. Honorable mention
From this group of nominees I pick my favorite: the Kiln Winner. Here we go.
As I am working my way through glaze test after glaze test over here, I am beginning to see some interesting results like this one. I am really excited how the white parts of the glaze has settled into the lines of the leaf.
I made this footed plate thinking of using it both as a bun plate, but at the same time it would also look fantastic with a grouping of daffodil bulbs in some moss.

Here I tested a quick pattern on a pencil cup. It just gives it something extra.
Next one is a new texture for some herb dishes. I love how it looks, but it needs a little more in the next iteration.

I began making these candle bowls for Christmas and they were so well received. Here they are in white as a newcomer. They are like a good pair of jeans, that you can dress up or down with the type of candle and what you put in the bowl around it. Here it is showing its minimalist side.
So excited about this stacked group of a footed bowl with an "Epcot-y" flower holder dome - aka a ceramic flower frog. It is just perfect for that little amount of picked flowers from your garden (or the store) because it can hold each stem individually. The dome is loose and can be removed from the bowl and is sold separately.

Honorable mention goes to this bubble vase. I just love how "spring" it looks with those stems in it too.
Did you guess the winner?

Hey! If that isn't the flower frog with the footed bowl. Here it is styled by the very talented, local, Christina from Seahurst Cabinetry and Design, which is where you can currently find this piece. She has styled it beautifully with one of her cabinet vignettes in her shoppe.
Here is the whole fam.
