Kiln unloading no 80 - 7 favorite pieces from my latest firing

Welcome to kiln opening number 80. I number my kiln firings and host an Earthie award show about it right here.

(I want to share with you the 7 best pieces or groups of pieces the kiln gave me. I affectionately think of these picks as "Earthies" awards. (Earth=clay). At the end of the post I am going to declare the Kiln Winner. I have declared a kiln winner ever since my very first glaze firing. The Kiln Winner is the ceramic piece that makes me the most exited to pull from that kiln firing.)

To build on the excitement, here are the 7 categories:

  1. 1. Noted glaze
  2. 2. Knows its shape
  3. 3. Pattern pot
  4. 4. Flexing texture
  5. 5. Favorite newcomer
  6. 6. Stacks or groups
  7. 7. Honorable mention

From this group of nominees I pick my favorite: the Kiln Winner. Here we go.

My new ochre glaze color is slowly shaping up. Here it is tested on a bigger dish for the first time. This mix between brown and yellow has completely stolen my heart! Definitely a noted glaze.

Next up is a bubble shaped vase. It is almost impossible to make a bubble vase I don't like. Just like this one. The tulips are adding Spring to its step!

The pattern that makes up this floral candlestick base is my own hand drawing. This is my new magnolia candlestick and I just love the light and shadow effect of the petals.

Next up I made this vase flex some real texture by adding 12 dots around the perimeter close to the opening. This is high stakes bonanza because if even one of the attachments fail, the whole vase fails. Luckily on this one, they are all good to go. Great flex!

I have a very excited newcomer in this bunch. My new Butterdish. It holds half a packet of Kerrygold butter and works both if you like to keep your butter on the counter or in the fridge. The great part about this size is that you have time to get to all the butter and then when you are ready for a refill, there is a matching half still waiting to go.

This planter has been a fan favorite. It has a flared out saucer where you have easy access to water the plant from the bottom. It is also a great spot to lift the planter with one hand.

A sweet little bowl with a flared rim grabs the honorable mention this time before we get to the winner which is.

The butterdish! I have been mulling this design over for a while and it is here. This is a butterdish I can not wait to use on my own table and I hope it will make its way onto yours too.
